View original imageThe National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage has received the Prime Minister's Commendation for developing software that automatically creates drawings of excavated artifacts using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
On December 11, the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage announced that it had been selected as a distinguished institution in the New Technology Commercialization Promotion category at the '2025 Industrial Technology Promotion Merit' government awards, organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The awards ceremony took place the previous day at the Peace & Park Convention in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, during the '2025 New Technology Commercialization Promotion Conference.'
Since 2021, the institute has been carrying out the national heritage research and development (R&D) project titled 'Development of Smart Conservation and Utilization Technology for National Heritage.' As part of this initiative, 'Arch3D Liner,' developed in collaboration with the private company Carat Fund, was recognized for its achievements in practical application.
'Arch3D Liner' is specialized software that automates the process of creating drawings of excavated artifacts. Utilizing three-dimensional (3D) scan data and AI, it precisely analyzes the shapes of buried heritage items and converts them into digital measured drawings. It is highly regarded for its practical use in the field, as it can replace the previously manual process of creating such drawings.
This product has obtained New Excellent Product (NEP) certification and Grade 1 Good Software (GS) certification. It also became the first in the world to win a CES 2025 Innovation Award in the field of cultural heritage technology and was selected for the Public Procurement Service's pilot purchase program for innovative products. NEP certification is awarded to domestically developed technologies whose performance and quality have been verified for the first time in Korea. GS certification is a national quality certification granted to software after evaluating its functionality and stability.
