Pianist Kim Suyeon Solo Recital: Debussy Pr?ludes Book I
Pianist Kim Suyeon will hold a solo recital focused on works by French composers at the IBK Chamber Hall of the Seoul Arts Center on December 9.
She will perform short dance pieces and suites by Poulenc, Couperin, and Bach, concluding the first half with "Vall?e d'Obermann," the sixth piece from Liszt's "Ann?es de p?lerinage, Premi?re ann?e: Suisse." In the second half, she will present Debussy's "Pr?ludes, Book I."
The subtitle of the concert is "Echos Francais" (Echoes of France). Kim Suyeon plans to delicately showcase French music from different eras and styles.
While the highlight of the performance is Debussy's "Pr?ludes, Book I," Kim Suyeon also singled out "Vall?e d'Obermann" as a particularly noteworthy piece. Composed by Liszt and inspired by S?nancour's novel "Obermann," this work stands out in a program otherwise dominated by short dance pieces and suites, as it is relatively more expansive in scope. The journey of the protagonist in search of the meaning of life lends the piece a profound depth that resonates deeply.
In 2021, Kim Suyeon became the first Asian to win the piano division at the Montreal International Competition. She has performed with numerous orchestras, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Paris Chamber Orchestra, and has played on renowned stages such as the Elbphilharmonie, Vienna Konzerthaus, and Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
