Selected as One of the "Top 10 Industrial Technology R&D Leaders"
Securing a Foundation for Localization of Eco-Friendly Ship Technology

SB Sunbo, an eco-friendly energy company, has been recognized for its achievements in leading future green ship technologies. The company was selected as one of the "Top 10 Industrial Technology R&D Leaders" by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and received a commendation from the Minister.

On December 3, at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Korea Tech Festival held at COEX in Seoul, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy presented government awards to companies and institutions that have contributed to domestic industrial technology research and development (R&D) and commercialization. This year, a total of ten companies and institutions were selected for the Top 10 list. SB Sunbo was recognized for its achievements in technology development in the shipbuilding and marine sector.

The importance of developing eco-friendly fuel-based ship technologies is growing in response to the International Maritime Organization's carbon reduction targets. SB Sunbo's achievements in developing an ammonia fuel supply system have been acknowledged as contributing to strengthening the nation's technological competitiveness.

SB Sunbo's ongoing research and development includes: a system for safely supplying ammonia as ship fuel; development of core devices based on domestic technology; and technologies for fuel leakage prevention and monitoring.

The key outcomes of this project have been identified as securing stable fuel supply and storage technology to address the expected high market share of ammonia, ensuring operational safety of ships, and achieving quality reliability for the practical use of eco-friendly fuels.

SB Sunbo is currently preparing to apply its developed ammonia fuel supply system to an actual ammonia-diesel dual-fuel engine for a sea trial scheduled for next year, with research continuing through March next year.

Jang Hogil, Executive Director of SB Sunbo and head of this research project, stated, "Ammonia-based eco-friendly fuel technology is a core field that will determine the future competitiveness of the shipbuilding and marine industry. With this award as a stepping stone, we will accelerate demonstration and commercialization efforts to secure technological leadership in the global eco-friendly ship market."

On the 3rd, at the 2025 Korea Tech Festival held at COEX in Seoul, Executive Director Jang Hogil of SB Seonbo is receiving a commendation from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy.
