In October last year, a private sector-led "GTX-G Pocheon Attraction Promotion Committee" was established, which has carried out various public campaigns and collected a total of 345,425 signatures through a citywide petition drive.
The 5th National Railroad Network Construction Plan is the highest-level statutory plan in the railway sector established by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and serves as the key criterion for determining whether to proceed with new railway projects.
During the meeting, Mayor Baek Younghyun submitted the petition and the signature list, explaining the limitations of transportation conditions in border areas, the need for balanced development in the northern part of the Seoul metropolitan area, and the economic and social ripple effects of the GTX-G line. He emphasized that "the GTX-G line will serve as a catalyst for revitalizing the local economy and driving urban growth."
In response, Kim Yoonduk, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "I fully understand the needs of the region and the necessity of the project, and I will positively consider it during the planning process."
Mayor Baek Younghyun said, "Attracting the GTX-G line is the earnest wish of all Pocheon citizens and represents a significant opportunity to usher in a new era of railways for Pocheon. I will do my utmost, together with the citizens, to ensure the line is included until the very end."
National Assembly member Kim Yongtae stated, "Through the establishment of the GTX-G line, we will lay the foundation for balanced development across the Seoul metropolitan area, including the northeastern part of Gyeonggi Province. I will actively consult with the relevant ministries to ensure that the plan for the railway network includes this line."
