L&K Biomed Sponsors Youth Science Audition for Third Consecutive Year
L&K Biomed, a company specializing in spinal implants, announced on December 4 that it sponsored the 3rd "Youth Science Audition" held at the Hoam Faculty House of Seoul National University.
The science audition, sponsored by L&K Biomed, was hosted and organized by the Science Hall, an association under the Ministry of Science and ICT. Over 100 people attended the event, including Kang Gukjin, Chairman of L&K Biomed; Lee Changseop, Chairman of BIXCO E&C; Park Jinsik, Chairman of Sejong Hospital Foundation; actress Yoon Sohee, who serves as an ambassador for the Science Hall; and other officials. The audition was held to discover promising young scientists and engineers who will lead the future of Korea at an early stage and to provide opportunities for youth to pursue their dreams in science.
The theme of the science audition was not predetermined by the organizers. Instead, participants were free to select a topic in the scientific or technological field of their interest, allowing Korean youth who will lead the future to envision what lies ahead and foster creative and scientific thinking.
The judging panel included Park Yongho, Chairman of the National Veterinary Advisory Committee of the Korean Veterinary Medical Association, along with four other experts. More than 120 students from across the country applied, with 50 selected in the first preliminary round. Following the second round, 12 finalists were confirmed for the final competition.
As a result of the finals, the Minister of Science and ICT Award was presented to Jeong Jiho, a fourth-grade student at Sani Elementary School in Suwon, for his presentation on "Efficient Solar Panel Arrangement Inspired by Leaf Phyllotaxis." The Grand Prize was awarded to Kim Nahyun, a first-year student at Jochiwon Middle School in Sejong, for her presentation on "Dew Circulation Mulching Beads: Agricultural Applications of Used Desiccants," and to Son Taeyang, a fourth-grade student at Sinpung Elementary School in Suwon, for his work titled "Order in Deformation."
The Minister of Science and ICT Award includes an annual scholarship of 1.5 million won until the recipient turns 18, while the Grand Prize offers an annual scholarship of 1 million won. All 12 finalists receive prize money and certificates, as well as one-on-one mentoring opportunities with distinguished scholars from the Science Hall.
L&K Biomed has been sponsoring the science audition for three consecutive years to promote the culture of science and technology and to discover outstanding scientific talent. At each event, the company has provided an annual scholarship of 1.2 million won until age 18 to two recipients of the L&K Biomed Chairman's Award.
A representative from L&K Biomed stated, "The process of seeking innovative ideas through the audition has provided students with valuable experiences in developing scientific thinking and attitudes. It will serve as an important foundation for their future."
