Former President Moon Jae-in, marking the first anniversary of the December 3 Martial Law, urged, "Let us all remember the lessons of that day one year ago and move forward vigorously toward a strong democracy that no one can shake."
On December 3, through his social media account, Moon stated, "As we mark the first anniversary of the December 3 Martial Law Rebellion, I am once again reminded of the preciousness of democracy." He continued, "The past year has been a process of restoring shaken democracy," adding, "Through a revolution of light, we protected democracy, and with mature civic awareness, Korea was able to move forward once again."
Moon also said, "I am deeply proud of our people, who have demonstrated the remarkable resilience of our democracy to the world. However, we must remain vigilant at all times."
He pointed out, "The forces behind the rebellion, which plunged our society into shock and anger, have yet to show any reflection or apology," and added, "Extreme politics that incite hatred, hostility, and division continue to threaten our democracy."
