On December 2, Ansan City announced that the Banwol·Siwha Smart Green Industrial Complex has been selected for the "AX Demonstration Industrial Complex Construction Project" organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, securing 14 billion won in national funding.

AX refers to the process of applying AI technology across organizations and industries to fundamentally change business models, including work processes, products, and services. Through this public contest, the Ministry aims to upgrade 10 smart green industrial complexes nationwide by building AX infrastructure and supporting AX demonstration projects for companies, thereby modernizing aging industrial complexes and promoting high value-added transformation and qualitative shifts in existing industrial structures.

Following the selection, a consortium led by the Gyeonggi Regional Headquarters of the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation will be formed, including Gyeonggi Province, Ansan City, Siheung City, Hanyang University ERICA, Korea Polytechnic University, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, TLB Co., Ltd., and SL Mirrotek Co., Ltd. The consortium will establish shared AX infrastructure for tenant companies in the Banwol·Siwha Smart Green Industrial Complex and provide demonstration support for companies.

Through this project, the city plans to build a testbed within the industrial complex where AX can be experienced, continuing financial support so that AI solution providers, user companies, and research institutions can research and demonstrate AI technologies.

In particular, the city intends to link AX technology with various strategic technologies such as AI, extended reality (XR), and 5G, in line with national policy trends including the government’s digital industrial complex initiative and the national advanced strategic industries development policy.

Lee Min-geun, Mayor of Ansan, stated, "We will spare no administrative and financial support to accelerate AI transformation and smart manufacturing innovation for companies, so that Ansan can emerge as a hub for the digital industry."
