Five Major Automakers Sell 668,991 Units in November... Domestic and Overseas Sales Both Decline
Sales Decline for Second Consecutive Month Year-on-Year
GM Korea and Renault Korea Continue to Struggle
The global sales of the five major domestic automakers continued to show sluggish performance last month.
According to Hyundai Motor Company, Kia, GM Korea, Renault Korea, and KG Mobility (KGM) on December 1, their combined domestic and overseas sales in November 2025 totaled 668,991 units, down 3.9% from the same period last year. KGM was the only company to record an increase, with a 1.4% rise in sales.
As a result, the five automakers posted negative year-on-year growth for two consecutive months, following October.
Their combined domestic sales fell by 5.8% to 116,602 units. All five companies saw a decline in domestic sales: Hyundai Motor Company (-3.4%), Kia (-0.6%), GM Korea (-46.6%), Renault Korea (-51.0%), and KG Mobility (-5.7%). In particular, GM Korea and Renault Korea saw their domestic sales nearly halve, dragging down the overall sales figures.
The best-selling model in the domestic market was the Kia Sorento, with 10,047 units sold. It was followed by the Kia Sportage (6,868 units), Hyundai Grandeur (6,499 units), Hyundai Sonata (5,897 units), and Hyundai Avante (5,459 units).
Overseas sales totaled 552,389 units, down 3.4%. Four companies, excluding KGM (which saw a 5.6% increase), recorded negative growth in overseas sales.
By company, Hyundai Motor Company sold 61,008 units domestically (-3.4%) and 288,499 units overseas (-2.2%), for a total of 349,507 units, down 2.4% year-on-year.
Kia sold 47,925 units domestically (-0.6%) and 214,140 units overseas (-0.9%), for a total of 262,065 vehicles.
GM Korea sold 43,799 units in total, down 11.7% from a year earlier. Overseas sales fell 10.4% to 42,826 units, while domestic sales plunged 46.6% to 973 units. The decline in domestic sales was much steeper than the decrease in exports, which had been expected to be hit by U.S. tariffs.
KGM sold a total of 8,971 units, up 1.4%. Domestic sales dropped 5.7% to 3,121 units, but overseas sales rose 5.6% to 5,850 units.
Renault Korea saw sharp declines in both domestic sales (-51.0%) and exports (-86.4%), ranking last among the five automakers for the second consecutive month following October. Overall, it sold 4,649 units, down 69.4% year-on-year.
