Tailored Proposals for the MENA Market Including L-SAM and Cheongeom
Hanwha Aerospace's K9 self-propelled howitzer will be fully deployed in Egypt, a key partner country in the Middle East and Africa (MENA) region, in 2026, marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations. In addition to the K9, the company will also showcase MENA market-tailored solutions in the region, including the Cheonmu multiple launch precision-guided weapon system, the long-range surface-to-air missile (L-SAM), and the Cheongeom missile.

At the center of the exhibition hall, a live guided missile from the Cheonmu multiple launch system is on display. Three types of Cheonmu 1.0 guided missiles with a maximum range of 80 to 290 km are exhibited, along with the Cheonmu 2.0 anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM), which has enhanced guidance capabilities to strike moving enemy vessels.
A model of the K9 self-propelled howitzer package, for which a 2 trillion won supply contract was signed with Egypt in 2022, is also being showcased. This includes, for the first time, the K9 deployed for coastal defense by the Egyptian Navy, as well as a ballistic correction fuse and precision-guided shells that enhance the accuracy of 155 mm artillery rounds. The naval version of the K11 fire command armored vehicle is equipped with an electro-optical tracking system (EOTS) and radar to detect the movement of enemy vessels.
The delivery of the K9 self-propelled howitzer package to the Egyptian military will begin in the first quarter of 2026. It will be equipped with a domestically developed 1,000-horsepower Korean engine, a result of cooperation among the private sector, government, and military. Parts from domestic defense partners will be supplied locally and the systems will be assembled and produced at a factory in Egypt.
At this exhibition, Hanwha Aerospace is also proposing an integrated air defense solution. The company is displaying the L-SAM, a 40 mm unmanned air defense system, and a short-range drone launcher. The Cheongeom missile, which has been upgraded for surface-to-surface operations, is also being introduced.
