Yeongdeok County's Byeolparang Park has been selected as the restoration site, and by November next year, 15,100 trees-including Acer pseudosieboldianum, ginkgo, and oak-will be planted over 3.8 hectares out of the 49.3 hectares damaged by wildfires, with the aim of restoring the devastated forest.
In addition, the committee plans to collaborate with the volunteer centers of Gyeongsangbuk-do and Yeongdeok County to run tree-planting volunteer programs involving local residents and tourists, thereby expanding the foundation for community participation and contributing to the revitalization of local tourism.
The committee previously provided 1 billion won in 2022 to support the recovery of areas severely damaged by large-scale wildfires in Gangwon and Gyeongsangbuk-do. This fund was used for the restoration of wildfire-affected areas in Gangneung City, the creation of firebreak forests, and the restoration of Dohwa-dongsan in Uljin County, Gyeongsangbuk-do, which was destroyed by wildfires.
Lee Cheolwoo, Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do, said, "I am grateful to the Mercedes-Benz Social Contribution Committee for taking the initiative to fulfill its corporate social responsibility and providing support to forest areas that suffered extensive damage from large wildfires. I hope that Byeolparang Park in Yeongdeok County, which has been devastated, can be restored."
