Uijeongbu City Launches "Workplace Sports Team Council" to Lead in Protecting the Rights of Athletes and Coaches
Uijeongbu City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Donggeun) officially launched the "Workplace Sports Team Council" on the 21st to protect the rights of athletes and coaches belonging to workplace sports teams, improve working conditions, and address grievances. View original imageWith the launch of this council, the city has established a foundation for greater transparency and fairness in the operation of workplace sports teams, enabling athletes and coaches to focus on training in a more stable environment.
The council is composed of a total of 11 members, including the Director of the Department of Culture and Learning, the Head of the Sports Division, the Vice Chair of the City Council, three coaches, three athletes, one human rights expert, and one sports policy advisor. It has been designed not merely as an advisory body, but as an organization that can actively discuss and improve the protection of rights and human rights issues.
During the meeting, reports were presented on the amendments to the ordinance and enforcement rules regarding the establishment and operation of the Uijeongbu City Workplace Sports Team. Subsequently, changes to the council's composition in accordance with the revised ordinance were also reported.
The participants also engaged in in-depth discussions on future operational plans for the council and how to establish an efficient system for gathering opinions. In particular, emphasis was placed on setting up formal procedures for members to raise grievances and on establishing standards for the protection of human rights.
