Pulmuone Accelerates Expansion of the Fresh Dumpling Category
On November 24, Pulmuone announced that its five varieties of “Fresh Dumplings” (Meat & Cabbage, Shrimp & Bok Choy, Meat & Spinach, Meat & Water Parsley, Rich Meat), launched in early September, have surpassed a cumulative sales volume of 1 million units within just three months of release.
The Fresh Dumplings are a new product developed by moving away from the conventional manufacturing methods of frozen dumplings, focusing instead on delivering the essence of dumplings-lively texture of the filling and moist dumpling wrappers.
The development of Fresh Dumplings focused on the fact that most texture loss occurs during the process of fully cooking and then refreezing shaped dumplings. Pulmuone introduced a new “instant steam method,” in which the dumpling wrappers are lightly cooked while the filling remains fresh, creating a just-made texture. The company also increased the proportion of fresh vegetables and combined a variety of fresh greens, resulting in a flavor profile that features not only meat juices but also vegetable juices. By maximizing the use of fresh vegetables, the dumplings offer a crisp texture and fresh taste unique to raw produce. Pulmuone also optimized the ratio of meat to vegetables to maximize flavor and boost consumer satisfaction.
Pulmuone expects that the successful market entry of Fresh Dumplings will help revitalize the domestic frozen dumpling market, which has been experiencing slowing growth. The company plans to strengthen its product lineup by sequentially launching various new Fresh Dumpling products in the future. Through these efforts, Pulmuone aims to expand the Fresh Dumpling category and enhance its competitiveness in the market.
