Daejeon City’s Youth Internship Program Proves Effective: 153 Transitioned to Regular Employment in Past Two Years
Targeting Job Market Demand for Experienced Workers
Daejeon's youth internship support program has resulted in 153 young people transitioning to regular employment or similar positions over the past two years, demonstrating its effectiveness in helping local youth secure stable jobs.
The youth internship support program is not only providing entry-level job seekers with practical work experience and opportunities for career development, but is also leading to regular employment and job retention.
This program, responding to the recent trend in the job market that emphasizes work experience, matches local entry-level job seekers with companies to support three-month internships. Through ongoing follow-up management, the program encourages transitions to regular employment and extended job retention by supporting ▲ quality work experience and ▲ career development.
During the internship period, each participant receives a monthly wage subsidy of 2 million won and a transportation allowance of 50,000 won for up to three months, reducing the employment burden on companies while supporting the practical career development of young people. The Daejeon Job Economy Promotion Agency is responsible for implementing the program.
To evaluate the program's real impact, Daejeon City conducted a survey from 2023 to 2024 on youth whose employment was extended through regular employment or similar outcomes as a result of participating in the program.
The results showed that 153 young people transitioned to regular employment or similar positions over the two-year period. Among them, 109 responded to the survey, and 92 indicated that they had either retained their jobs at the original company or successfully found new employment by leveraging their experience.
This means that 84.4% of respondents are still employed, indicating that the program is effectively helping local youth settle into stable, quality jobs.
In particular, among the companies that have maintained employment after converting interns to regular positions, Easytech Co., Ltd. achieved the highest result by converting four interns to regular employees at once, all of whom remain employed.
Additionally, KNS Inc., Mir Apparel Co., Ltd., and Contech Co., Ltd. each converted two interns to regular employees, all of whom have retained their jobs.
Furthermore, this year's program received strong support from local youth, closing early in July. As of the November survey conducted upon completion of internship matching and support, 60 out of 78 participants who completed the three-month internship period transitioned to extended employment or regular positions, resulting in a conversion rate of approximately 76.9%.
