Park Myungkyun, Deputy Governor of Gyeongnam Province, submitted his resignation to the government on November 14.
On the same day, Deputy Governor Park announced the news of his resignation via his social networking service (SNS) account, stating, "I will strive even harder to reach out to many people in a new way in the future."
It has been reported that he expressed his intention to resign effective December 11, citing personal reasons.
The appointment of deputy governors for cities and provinces is made by the President upon the recommendation of the Minister of the Interior and Safety.

View original imageDeputy Governor Park, a native of Sancheong, Gyeongnam Province, graduated from Jinju Daea High School and the Department of Public Administration at Pusan National University. He began his public service career in 1996 after passing the first local civil service examination.
Since then, he has held various key positions in central government agencies, including Director of Policy Planning at the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, Director of Planning and Coordination at the Korea Local Information Research and Development Institute, Director of Public Safety Policy and Director General of the Prevention Policy Bureau at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
He also served as Director General of Economic and Trade Affairs for Gyeongnam Province and as Vice Mayor of Geoje City before being appointed Deputy Governor of Gyeongnam Province on September 2, 2024.
With approximately two years remaining before his mandatory retirement, Park's resignation is seen as a move to run for mayor of Jinju in next year's election.
Prior to Deputy Governor Park, other senior officials in Gyeongnam Province, including Yoo Myunghyun, Director General of the Balanced Development Headquarters, and Cha Seokho, Vice Mayor of Jinju City, also took early retirement in succession.
