Pusan National University has reaffirmed its status as a research-focused institution by sweeping the top prizes in both the doctoral and master's major categories at the 21st Busan Future Scientist Awards, which recognizes outstanding local scientific talent.
The university announced on the 14th that Jaejin Hwang (Department of Physics) won the top prize in the doctoral science category, while Hongseok Kim (School of Mechanical Engineering) claimed the top prize in the doctoral engineering category. In addition, Jigyo Park (School of Mechanical Engineering) was selected as the top prize winner in the master's engineering category. In the master's science category, Wonsuk Lee (School of Dentistry) and Taeho Jung (Department of Chemistry) received excellence awards.

Jaejin Hwang, who received the top prize in the doctoral science category, was recognized for identifying the causes of structural instability in cathode materials and providing foundational data for the next-generation secondary battery field.
Hongseok Kim, who won the top prize in the engineering category, was acknowledged for securing original next-generation hardfacing technology based on laser metal additive manufacturing (AM), demonstrating the originality of his research.

The Busan Future Scientist Awards is a prestigious local science award presented since 2005 by the Busan Science and Technology Council and the city of Busan to foster regional scientific talent. This year's award ceremony is scheduled to be held on December 10 at the International Conference Hall of Busan City Hall.
