Mayor Bang Se-hwan: "Directly Linked to Citizen Safety... Road Environment Improvements to Secure Pedestrian Mobility"
Gwangju City Completes Road Improvements in Gwangnam-dong
New Stairs at Taejeon Overpass and Additional Right-Turn Lane
Significant Boost to Traffic Flow and Pedestrian Safety
On November 7, Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it has completed all major road improvement projects in the Gwangnam-dong area, including low-noise pavement (between Taejeon IC and Gosan IC), the installation of stairs at the Taejeonbo pedestrian overpass (next to the Youth Training Center), and the addition of a right-turn lane (next to Taejeon Geunbyeol Park).

Previously, pedestrians near the Taejeonbo pedestrian overpass had to detour to the stairs on the opposite side or wait to use the elevator, causing inconvenience. However, with the new stairs installed, pedestrian routes have been optimized, greatly improving access to the bus stop.
In particular, the project has had a positive impact on ensuring the safety of students commuting to and from nearby schools.
Additionally, a right-turn lane has been added to the roads around Taejeon Geunbyeol Park, which had been identified as a chronic traffic congestion area, and one more left-turn lane has also been secured. As a result, traffic bottlenecks during rush hour are expected to be alleviated, and the risk of accidents within the intersection is anticipated to decrease. Furthermore, to resolve traffic congestion at certain intersections in Taejeon-dong, the city plans to reorganize the internal traffic system within the Taejeon district.
