Beomeosa Seongbo Museum and Busan Arts High School Present 'Beomeosa Captured on Canvas' Exhibition
Held from November 4 to 16
A Contemporary Interpretation of Traditional Culture Through the Eyes of Youth
The Beomeosa Seongbo Museum is showcasing the beauty of traditional culture through the eyes of young people.
The Beomeosa Seongbo Museum is holding a special exhibition titled 'Beomeosa Captured on Canvas' featuring students from Busan Arts High School, from November 4 to November 16, 2025. This exhibition is part of a 'work agreement for the preservation of local cultural heritage and the revitalization of arts education' signed by the two institutions earlier this year.
This exhibition presents selected outstanding works by students from the Busan Arts High School Department of Fine Arts, who visit Geumjeongsan Mountain and Beomeosa every May to create outdoor sketches. This year, a total of 39 pieces are on display, including works by second-year student Koo Yeonwoo. The artworks reinterpret the traditional architectural beauty of Beomeosa's halls, pagodas, dancheong (decorative coloring), and floral lattice doors with a contemporary sensibility, capturing the unique sensitivity and vibrancy of young artists.
Through this exhibition, the Beomeosa Seongbo Museum aims to "share the beauty of cultural heritage as seen through the eyes of future generations with the local community, and to highlight both the educational and artistic value of traditional arts."
Since the agreement, the two institutions have continued to pursue not only exhibition collaborations but also humanities and arts education programs centered on cultural heritage. In particular, Beomeosa selects some of the students' works each year to produce New Year's calendars, which are then provided free of charge to Busan Arts High School, fostering ongoing communication with the local community.
Venerable Sanhae Jeongo, Chief Monk of Geumjeong Chongnim Beomeosa and Director of the Seongbo Museum, stated, "This exhibition is a meaningful occasion where the younger generation offers a new interpretation of its beauty," and added, "I hope that art will serve as a bridge connecting tradition to the future."
Kim Haegwan, Principal of Busan Arts High School, commented, "The process in which students directly experience tradition and nature on site and express it through their works is a valuable learning opportunity that cannot be gained through classroom lessons alone," and continued, "I hope this exhibition will not only foster artistic growth but also deepen understanding and affection for local cultural heritage."
