Exploring Practical Measures for Institutional Reform
The Seoul Bar Association (President Cho Soonyeol) will hold a symposium to examine employers' civil liability for gender-based violence in the workplace.
On November 4, the Seoul Bar Association announced that it will host a symposium titled "Workplace Stalking and Employers' Civil Liability" at the Bar Association Hall in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on November 7.
This symposium has been organized to review court rulings, with a focus on the civil judgment related to the Sindang Station stalking and murder case, and to discuss how employers' civil liability should be established in the context of gender-based violence in the workplace. Although laws regarding stalking have been enacted, stalking or gender-based violence occurring in the workplace is still often dismissed as an individual issue, and the responsibility of employers has not been sufficiently discussed.
At the symposium, Attorney Moon Hyejeong from Law Office Jeong, Professor Park Gwichun from Ewha Womans University Law School, and Professor Kim Taeseon from Sogang University Law School will each deliver keynote presentations. The subsequent panel discussion will feature Dr. Koo Miyeong, Head of the Women's Employment Research Division at the Korean Women's Development Institute, Attorney Kim Giwon, Senior Vice President of the Seoul Bar Association, and Attorney Seo Hyewon, Managing Director of the Seoul Bar Association.
