As suspected narcotics continue to be discovered along the island’s coastline, concerns are being raised that drug smuggling through maritime routes may be rampant.
According to the Jeju Regional Maritime Police Agency on November 4, a report of a suspected narcotic substance was received at Jeju Port at around 10:30 a.m. on November 1. This discovery came just one day after a resident reported a similar substance on the coast of Jocheon-eup on October 31.
The maritime police have collected the suspected narcotics from both locations and requested a detailed analysis from the National Forensic Service. The substances found this time were all contained in plastic bags, with the Chinese character for "tea" (茶) written on them. The contents were white crystals, each sealed in 1-kilogram packages.

The Jeju Regional Maritime Police Agency is considering the possibility that these substances may have entered the area from the sea, given the recent reports of suspected narcotics along various parts of the island’s coastline. An official from the agency stated, "We plan to strengthen searches of the sea and coastline in Jeju, and will also promote public awareness among maritime workers to encourage immediate reporting if any suspicious objects are found."
