Hyundai Sales Down 7% in October Due to Chuseok Holiday; Kia Also Sees Slight Decline
Sales Decline Due to Fewer Business Days
"Strengthening Eco-Friendly Hybrid Lineup"
Hyundai Motor Company and Kia experienced a slight decrease in global sales last month, influenced by the Chuseok holiday period.
On November 3, Hyundai Motor Company announced that it sold 351,735 units last month, marking a 6.9% decrease compared to the same month last year. Domestic sales reached 53,822 units, while overseas sales totaled 297,931 units, representing decreases of 17.1% and 4.8%, respectively.
In the domestic market, sedan sales included 5,074 units of the Grandeur, 4,603 units of the Sonata, and 6,014 units of the Avante, totaling 16,058 units. For recreational vehicles, 3,829 units of the Palisade, 4,861 units of the Santa Fe, 3,909 units of the Tucson, 2,951 units of the Kona, and 1,482 units of the Casper were sold, amounting to a total of 20,010 units.
The Porter recorded sales of 3,979 units, while the Staria sold 2,420 units. Medium and large buses and trucks accounted for a total of 2,096 units. The luxury brand Genesis sold 2,991 units of the G80, 2,850 units of the GV80, and 2,512 units of the GV70, totaling 9,060 units.
A Hyundai Motor Company official stated, "Last month's sales performance declined due to a reduction in business days caused by the Chuseok holiday," adding, "We plan to continue expanding sales by increasing the proportion of eco-friendly vehicles and strengthening the hybrid lineup as part of our optimal sales strategy."
Last month, Kia sold 40,041 units domestically and 223,014 units overseas, totaling 263,904 units. This represents a 0.5% decrease compared to the same period last year. While domestic sales dropped by 13.1% year-on-year, overseas sales increased by 2.1%.
The Sportage was the best-selling model with 47,341 units, followed by the Seltos with 25,406 units and the Sorento with 21,824 units.
In the domestic market, the Sorento was the top seller with 6,788 units. For passenger cars, the Ray sold 3,382 units, the K5 sold 3,045 units, and the K8 sold 2,129 units, totaling 11,319 units.
For recreational vehicles, 4,515 units of the Carnival, 4,055 units of the Sportage, 3,365 units of the Seltos, and 1,423 units of the EV3 were sold, totaling 23,926 units. In the commercial vehicle segment, the Bongo III sold 2,847 units, with a total of 4,756 commercial vehicles sold.
Overseas, the Sportage was again the top-selling model with 43,286 units, followed by the Seltos with 22,041 units and the Sorento with 21,162 units. Special vehicles recorded sales of 343 units domestically and 546 units overseas, totaling 889 units.

A Kia official commented, "Although domestic sales declined due to fewer business days during the Chuseok holiday, sales growth continues in overseas markets," adding, "We aim to maintain sales momentum by focusing on eco-friendly vehicles such as SUV hybrid models and dedicated electric vehicle lineups."
