Strategies for Standardization of Physical AI, 6G, and Quantum Technologies Discussed
The Ministry of Science and ICT, together with the Korean Intellectual Property Office, announced on November 3 that the "2025 Global ICT Standardization Conference (GISC 2025)" will be held for three days from November 3 to 5 at EL Tower in Yangjae, Seoul.
Celebrating its ninth year, GISC is themed "AI for All" and will discuss how to realize an inclusive and innovative society where the benefits of artificial intelligence technology are shared equitably and progress is made together. Over 1,000 leading domestic and international experts will participate, focusing on the standardization of digital strategic technologies such as quantum and 6G, as well as intellectual property strategies.
This year, in particular, Korea's independently planned "Global Standard Strategy Seminar" will be co-hosted with major overseas organizations, including the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), and the Telecommunication Technology Committee (TTC) of Japan.
At the opening ceremony, Jan Elsborg, Secretary-General of ETSI, and Neil Trevett, Chair of the Khronos Group and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at NVIDIA, delivered keynote speeches outlining the direction for global standardization to achieve inclusive and innovative digital transformation in the era of physical AI.
This event was organized into global and domestic tracks. The global track included the Global Standard Strategy Seminar (AI, 6G, Quantum), the Standard Capability Enhancement Seminar, the Korea-China-Japan IT Standard Cooperation Meeting, and the Korea-EU Standard Strategy Workshop. The domestic track featured the ICT Standard Patent Achievement Presentation, the Future Innovation Standard Seminar, the AI Ethics and Safety Seminar, and the International Standardization Expert and Standardization Forum Activities Briefing Session.
Park Taewan, Director General at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, "As emphasized at the APEC Summit, for Korea to become one of the top three AI powerhouses, it is essential not only to have technological prowess but also the universality to be chosen on the global stage. We will actively support global standardization activities alongside securing independent AI models and fostering physical AI to enhance our technological competitiveness."

Kim Junggyun, Director General at the Korean Intellectual Property Office, commented, "In an era of technological hegemony, intellectual property and standards have emerged as key strategic tools for securing technological sovereignty, and standard-essential patents, which combine both, are now a core factor in gaining a foothold in the global market. We will strengthen support for securing standard-essential patent competitiveness to help our companies lead in the global market and improve the technology trade balance."
