The Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Coal Mining Culture Village will be closed from November 1, 2025, to December 31, 2026, due to facility remodeling as part of the "Coal Mining Culture Village Advancement Project."

View original imageThe Coal Mining Culture Village is a public museum in Machari, Buk-myeon, Yeongwol County, showcasing the history of coal mining life. Established for exhibition and educational purposes, including displays on miners' daily lives and mine tunnel experiences, it attracts around 40,000 visitors annually.
This remodeling project aims to improve the aging exhibition facilities and enhance the visitor environment at the Coal Mining Culture Village. Major upgrades will include replacing exhibits inside the living quarters, constructing a new office building, and installing a mine cart, among other key facility renovations.
An official from the Culture and Tourism Division of Yeongwol County (Director: An Baekun) stated, "The Coal Mining Culture Village is a space symbolizing Yeongwol's industrial heritage and regional identity. Through this advancement project, it will be reborn as a more comfortable space," adding, "After the remodeling is completed, we will welcome visitors with a wider variety of content."

Meanwhile, the closure period may change depending on the progress of construction, and newly renovated exhibitions and experience programs at the Coal Mining Culture Village will be introduced upon reopening.
