The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education has selected six schools as outstanding facilities for the Space Restructuring Project.

The Space Restructuring Project is an initiative to rebuild or remodel schools with buildings that are over 40 years old.

The provincial office announced on October 31 that, after reviewing 43 schools that participated in the space restructuring project over the past year, it has selected a total of six schools as outstanding facilities-two as Best Facilities and four as Excellent Facilities.

Pocheon Hwacheon Elementary School was selected as the Best Facility in the reconstruction category. Hwacheon Elementary demolished its old buildings 2 and 3, expanded building 1, and created a variety of efficient spaces. Notably, the school connected the library and after-school care classroom with folding doors that can be easily opened and closed, organically integrating learning and care.

Goyang Deogyang Middle School was selected as the Best Facility in the remodeling category. Deogyang Middle School created an indoor plaza at the center of the campus, utilizing it as a multipurpose space for learning, performances, and exhibitions. Additionally, the school enhanced its open educational environment by connecting special classrooms to the outdoors with folding doors and platforms, strengthening accessibility.

The provincial office plans to identify and share best practices from the Space Restructuring Project to build consensus on creating future educational spaces linked to teaching and learning. Based on these examples, it will also support upcoming projects to ensure that schools are developed as user-centered, future-oriented educational spaces.
