Enhanced Access to Public Facilities
Seongdong District in Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Wono) will launch the new Success Bus Route 4 starting November 3. With this expansion, Seongdong District will operate a total of four Success Bus routes.
The Success Bus (Seongdong District Public Facility Shuttle Bus) is a transportation service that connects essential public facilities such as the district office, community centers, and sports centers within residents’ daily living areas, making them easy and convenient to access. To improve mobility for transportation-vulnerable groups and address transportation blind spots, the district launched the first route in October last year, added two more routes in May this year, and is currently operating three routes.
The newly established Route 4 starts at Seongdong District Office (Wangsimni Station Exit 6-1) and circulates through Haengdang 2-dong Community Center, Geumho 4-ga-dong Community Center, and Oksu-dong Community Center, before reaching the Maebongsan Children’s Forest Experience Center in Oksu-dong.
In a resident survey conducted last year, 98% of respondents expressed a desire to use the Success Bus, and 18% of those were residents of Oksu-dong, Geumho 4-ga-dong, and Haengdang 2-dong. As a result, a route passing through these areas was newly established.
Route 4 offers convenient transfers not only to other Success Bus routes, but also to local buses, city buses, and the subway. After getting off at the Seongdong District Office stop, passengers can transfer to other Success Bus routes via Wangsimni Station Exits 4 or 6-1, further improving access to major public facilities throughout Seongdong District.
Additionally, Route 4 adopts a purple color scheme, reflecting the “rainbow” design concept used for the previous three routes. The rainbow colors symbolize a community where all areas of Seongdong District harmoniously coexist.
With the launch of Route 4, Seongdong District has completed a transportation system that connects public facilities in all 17 neighborhoods. Residents can now freely travel to the district office, community centers, and sports centers using only the Success Bus, effectively establishing a “Seongdong-style public facility daily life transportation system.”
Within just one year of its introduction, the Success Bus has become a flagship policy for Seongdong District. Last year, it was selected as one of the “Top 10 News Stories of 2024 That Shined in Seongdong,” and in July this year, it won the Outstanding Policy Award for Autonomous Districts at the 2nd Korea Sustainable City Evaluation Seminar. The public-led expansion of transportation infrastructure was highly praised for changing residents’ mobility patterns and contributing to the creation of a sustainable transportation ecosystem.

Jeong Wono, Mayor of Seongdong District, stated, “With the expansion of the Success Bus routes, we have now completed a Seongdong-style public facility-linked transportation system that allows easy and convenient access to major public facilities throughout the entire district. Going forward, we will continue to work with local bus operators to ensure that no resident is excluded from mobility and that there are no transportation blind spots, thereby solidifying ‘Seongdong-style transportation welfare.’”
