The Sejong City Council's "Research Group to Find Multifaceted Solutions for Commercial Vacancy," led by Representative Kim Hyosook, held its final report meeting in the council's main conference room on the 29th.
During the meeting, the main causes of commercial vacancy were identified as the oversupply of commercial land during the development of new towns, population imbalance centered around the administrative town, and restrictions on business types within district unit plans. As a result of multifaceted discussions to resolve these vacancies, the final report included detailed implementation plans for establishing a digital content startup special zone in Naseong-dong, creating a culture and arts startup special zone in Dapyeong-dong and Eojin-dong, and developing Sejong-style capsule hotel facilities.
In particular, there was discussion about attracting "Sejong-style new technology startups" to Naseong-dong and utilizing the areas of Dapyeong-dong and Eojin-dong as spaces for small-scale cultural content startup models, thereby fostering the region's cultural ecosystem.
Assemblyman Lee Sunyeol stated, "The plan to establish Sejong-style capsule hotels will meet the region's insufficient accommodation demand and, furthermore, help resolve commercial vacancies." He added, "To enable Eojin-dong and Dapyeong-dong to develop into culture and arts startup special zones, we must find and implement the best possible plans that harmonize with the unique characteristics of the region."
