Visiting Urban Regeneration Sites in the City Center
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced that on the 27th (local time), Mayor Lee Sangil and the city delegation, who are currently visiting Europe, discussed ways to promote friendly exchanges and cooperation with the city of Montpellier, France, and reviewed major projects such as urban regeneration.

View original imageOn the morning of the same day, Mayor Lee visited "Maison Pour Tous L'Escouta," a cultural center in the Pr?dillen district of Montpellier, and toured its main facilities.
At the site, Montpellier Deputy Mayor Nicole Marin-Courri and Gr?gory Nogre, Director of the L'Escouta Center, introduced a variety of youth and young adult programs at L'Escouta, including art, theater, ceramics, language education, and cooking workshops.
Mayor Lee provided a detailed explanation of Yongin City's youth and young adult policies, stating, "Let us continue to communicate more so that we can share and learn from each other's best policies, enabling the youth, young adults, and citizens of both cities to enjoy a better quality of life through cooperation."
At the meeting, the public transportation policies of Montpellier M?diterran?e M?tropole, as well as its initiatives to expand tram and bicycle infrastructure, were also introduced. Montpellier M?diterran?e M?tropole is a metropolitan government consisting of 31 communes, including the city of Montpellier.
Montpellier M?diterran?e M?tropole is implementing policies to restrict car traffic in the historic city center, a practice dating back to the Middle Ages, and to alleviate congestion through tram operations, thereby reducing carbon emissions and creating a safer pedestrian environment.
In the afternoon, Mayor Lee and the delegation visited the office of "Mission Grand Coeur," Montpellier's urban regeneration agency, to observe the "Mission Grand Coeur" urban development project. This project is a long-term urban regeneration program aimed at the revitalization, preservation, and activation of Montpellier's city center. Since its approval by the city council in 2002, a dedicated organization has been established to oversee the preservation of historical buildings and streetscapes, as well as road maintenance.
Mayor Lee spent about 50 minutes touring the site and exchanging opinions on urban regeneration with local officials.
