Permanent Automobile Zone to Be Transformed... National Busan Science Museum Begins Renovation Reflecting Future Technologies
Strengthening Future Mobility and Autonomous Driving
New Exhibition Zone to Open at the End of December
The National Busan Science Museum, led by Director Song Samjong, is renovating its permanent exhibition hall to showcase automobiles, the icons of modern and future science, in detail.
On October 23, the National Busan Science Museum announced that, in celebration of its 10th anniversary, it has begun a comprehensive renovation of the automobile zone within its permanent exhibition hall, with plans to unveil the new space at the end of December.
The museum has been promoting a culture of science and technology through a variety of exhibitions, educational programs, and events centered around its permanent exhibition hall, which focuses on key industrial technologies in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions, including automobiles, aviation, space, shipbuilding, energy, and medical science.
Among these, the automobile zone offers an interactive space where visitors can learn about the principles of gears, steering systems, and the science behind wheels-key components of the automotive and machinery industries in Busan and Gyeongnam-while also experiencing science in a hands-on way through driving simulators and other experiential content.
The museum is pursuing improvements to its permanent exhibition hall as part of its mid- to long-term plan. This year, the focus is on upgrading the automobile zone to reflect the rapid advancements in autonomous driving and future mobility industries since the museum opened in 2015, transforming it into a space where visitors can experience the latest technologies firsthand.
The new exhibition, themed "Driving the Future," will be divided into three sections: ▲ the basic technologies and principles of automobiles, ▲ sustainability and energy technologies in automobiles, and ▲ future automotive technologies and transportation innovation. Spanning 1,031.8 square meters, the exhibition will feature a total of 28 hands-on exhibits.
Highlights include the "Mobility Pit Zone," where visitors can become engineers and explore the structure and technology of advanced electric vehicles; the "Autonomous Logistics Station," where self-driving cars deliver packages in simulated road environments; the "Immersive Autonomous Driving Simulator," which combines a large screen with moving seats; and the "Future Mobility Interactive Zone," an exhibit that encourages visitor participation. The range of engaging content exploring the future of automotive science will be significantly expanded.
The renovation will take place over approximately two months starting in October, during which time Hall 1 of the permanent exhibition will be partially open to visitors. The newly renovated automobile zone will be unveiled at the end of December.
