KOSPI Opens Down Over 1%... KOSDAQ Also Weak
On October 23, the domestic stock market opened with a broad decline in early trading.
As of 9:20 a.m. on this day, the KOSPI was trading at 3,838.20, down 45.48 points (1.17%) from the previous day. Earlier, the index had opened at 3,835.79, a decrease of 47.89 points (1.23%) from the previous session.
While individual investors made net purchases totaling 489.4 billion won, foreign investors and institutions recorded net sales of 215.5 billion won and 290.3 billion won, respectively. In the KOSPI 200 futures market, institutions bought 600.9 billion won, while individuals and foreign investors sold 155.3 billion won and 421.4 billion won, respectively.
Most of the leading KOSPI stocks by market capitalization were in decline. Doosan Enerbility (-2.91%), Hyundai Motor (-2.30%), Samsung Electronics (-1.93%), Kia (-1.69%), SK Hynix (-1.56%), KB Financial Group (-1.47%), LG Energy Solution (-1.21%), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (-0.86%), and Samsung Biologics (-0.43%) all fell, while Hanwha Aerospace (1.49%) rose.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ was trading at 876.06, down 3.09 points (0.35%). The index had opened at 874.13, a decrease of 5.02 points (0.57%). Individual investors purchased 70.4 billion won, while foreign investors and institutions sold 48.4 billion won and 17.2 billion won, respectively.
Among the top KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization, performance was mixed. Samchundang Pharm (-1.46%), Rainbow Robotics (-0.88%), Ecopro BM (-0.70%), ABL Bio (-0.23%), and Ecopro (-0.23%) were weak, while PharmaResearch (1.95%), Alteogen (1.11%), HLB (0.62%), Ligachem Bio (0.37%), and Peptone (0.19%) were strong.
By sector, electrical equipment (+3.06%), internet retail (+2.29%), broadcasting and entertainment (+1.57%), cosmetics (+1.38%), and household goods (+1.14%) showed gains. Media services (-2.29%), securities (-2.10%), healthcare technology (-1.87%), conglomerates (-1.79%), and semiconductors and equipment (-1.63%) were in decline.
