Busan City and BISTEP to Hold the 4th Busan Future Technology Innovation Forum
"Busan Leads the New Maritime Industry
by Integrating AI and Eco-Friendly Technologies"
Busan is set to emerge as a global maritime hub city, with science and technology at the forefront.
The Busan Metropolitan Government and the Busan Institute of Science and Technology for Advanced Education Promotion (President Kim Youngboo, BISTEP) will hold the '4th Busan Future Technology Innovation Forum' at 1:30 p.m. on October 23 in Crystal Ballroom B at Lotte Hotel Busan.
This forum will be held in conjunction with the 19th World Ocean Forum (WOF), which runs from October 22 to 24. The theme is 'Busan as a Global Maritime Hub City Based on Science and Technology.'
The core agenda will focus on Busan's strategy for fostering new maritime industries by integrating AI, eco-friendly technologies, and digital innovation.
More than 100 experts from industry, academia, research institutes, and government will participate, including Jo Jinsook, Director of Marine Capital Policy Division at Busan Metropolitan Government; Kim Sewon, Director at the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI); Kim Jihoon, Center Director at the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST); Yoo Bomi, Professor at Pukyong National University; Jin Songhan, Head of the Research Institute of Medium & Small Shipbuilding (RIMS); Bae Hyerim, Professor at Pusan National University; and Eum Hakjin, Director at the Korea Institute of Marine Science & Technology Promotion (KIMST).
The event will begin with opening remarks by Kim Youngboo, President of BISTEP, followed by five presentations: ▲ 'BISTEP's Role and Achievements in Fostering Busan's Maritime Industry' by Chae Junwon, Director at BISTEP; ▲ 'Strategies for Promoting New Maritime Industries in Busan' by Kim Sewon, Director at KMI; ▲ 'Development of AI-Based Unmanned Monitoring and Data Collection Technology' by Kim Jihoon, Center Director at KIOST; ▲ 'Industrialization Strategy for Marine Bio: Value Innovation of Seaweed' by Yoo Bomi, Professor at Pukyong National University; and ▲ 'Marine Waste Treatment Technology Using Eco-Friendly High-Temperature Gasification Systems' by Jin Songhan, Head of RIMS.
A total of five topics will be presented.
During the panel discussion, Bae Hyerim, Professor at Pusan National University, will serve as moderator. Jo Jinsook, Director at Busan Metropolitan Government, and Eum Hakjin, Director at KIMST, among others, will exchange views on strategies to strengthen Busan's position as a global maritime hub city.

Kim Youngboo, President of BISTEP, stated, "Busan is advancing beyond its traditional shipbuilding and port-centered maritime industry to become a new maritime industry city where AI, digital, and eco-friendly technologies converge. I hope this forum will serve as a foundation for building a science and technology-centered maritime industry ecosystem and enhancing global competitiveness."
