The "Sunlight, Happiness, Sharing Energy Welfare Project" is a virtuous cycle social contribution initiative in which private energy companies donate solar power equipment (such as modules, inverters, and structures), and the profits generated from the solar power plant are donated to energy-vulnerable groups in the local community. This year, with the new participation of Cheorwon County and six private companies, a cumulative capacity of 70kW solar power plants is expected to be operated. The plant is projected to generate approximately 20 million won in annual revenue, which will be used for advanced energy welfare projects such as donating coal briquettes and replacing energy facilities for low-income households. Through these efforts, the project aims to help vulnerable groups in the region stay warm during the cold winter months.
In particular, Cheorwon County has given special significance to the project by prioritizing the DMZ border area, where development is restricted, as the target site, thereby contributing to the realization of regional welfare through the expansion of renewable energy.
Lee Hyun-jong, Governor of Cheorwon County, expressed his gratitude to the officials and private companies for their efforts in making the installation of the solar power plant possible with the support and cooperation of Gangwon Province, the Korea Energy Agency, the Korea Climate Change Research Institute, and private enterprises. He stated, "It is very meaningful to achieve a win-win outcome by participating in an energy welfare project that can provide annual support to vulnerable groups. We will continue to work with relevant organizations to develop sustainable energy welfare models."
