Cheorwon Cultural Foundation to Present Play "Heukbaek Dabang" on October 29 for Culture Day
A Masterful Narrative of Modern Korea's Wounds from the 1980s
The Play "Heukbaek Dabang"
The Cheorwon Cultural Foundation in Gangwon Province will present the play "Heukbaek Dabang" at 7:30 p.m. on October 29 at the Hwagang Culture Center to mark October Culture Day.
This year marks the 11th anniversary of the play "Heukbaek Dabang" (written and directed by Cha Hyunseok), which has received high praise for its masterful narrative that directly confronts the wounds of Korea's modern history left by the 1980s, without aggravating them.
Set in Nampo-dong, Busan, the story unfolds as a caf? owner (Kim Myunggon) who counsels wounded souls is visited by a customer (Yoon Sangho) from his past. Since its premiere in 2014, the play has been performed in countries around the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and T?rkiye. It has been recognized for its artistic merit, winning the Best Director and Best Actor awards at the 14th Theater People Festival, receiving an official invitation to the 43rd Busan Theater Festival, and being invited to the 26th Jinju Theater People Festival.
Tickets can be reserved through the Cheorwon Cultural Foundation website, with reservations opening at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22. Admission is free and limited to Cheorwon County residents. Detailed information about the performance is available on the foundation's website.
