Hana Securities Launches Korea’s First Integrated Account for Foreign Investors with Initial Transaction
Hana Securities announced on October 20 that it has officially launched its 'Integrated Account for Foreign Investors' service, which was designated as an innovative financial service by the Financial Services Commission, and recently completed its first successful transaction.
This transaction marks the first time in the history of the capital market that an individual foreign investor has directly traded Korean stocks through a local securities firm. Previously, non-resident foreign investors had to go through complicated procedures, such as opening an account directly with a Korean securities company, to invest in Korean stocks. However, with the introduction of the Integrated Account for Foreign Investors service, investors can now place orders and make payments through their local securities firms.
Earlier, in August, Hana Securities attracted Emperor Securities, a leading Hong Kong-based securities firm, as a partner for the Integrated Account for Foreign Investors and successfully completed the first transaction. With this, Hana Securities became the first Korean securities company to independently establish the entire process for individual foreign investors to trade Korean stocks.
The company emphasized that this achievement is the result of Hana Securities' continuous efforts to enhance investment convenience and respond to growing global investment demand by leveraging the capabilities of Hana Financial Group. In May, Hana Securities collaborated with Hana Bank to launch the 'Hana Overseas Stock Investment Account,' a foreign currency demand deposit product dedicated to overseas stock trading. This product allows investors to trade U.S. stocks through Hana Securities using U.S. dollars held in their Hana Bank foreign currency accounts, without the need for separate foreign currency transfers, thereby enhancing investor convenience.
Going forward, Hana Securities plans to strengthen its role as a 'global investment hub' by collaborating with various overseas partners, in addition to Emperor Securities in Hong Kong, with whom it has signed a business agreement, leveraging the capabilities of Hana Financial Group.
