Daejeon Intangible Cultural Heritage Holders to Host Joint Public Event
Held at Daejeon Traditional Narae Center from October 17 to 19
An event will be held where visitors can experience intangible cultural heritage, a precious asset that embodies the region's history and identity, all in one place.
Daejeon City will host the "2025 Intangible Cultural Heritage Holders Joint Public Event" at the Daejeon Traditional Narae Center for three days, from October 17 to October 19, 2025.
Unlike tangible cultural heritage such as traditional crafts, performing arts, and traditional knowledge, intangible cultural heritage refers to valuable assets passed down by individual holders or organizations. The public event is held annually to promote the transmission of intangible cultural heritage, providing holders with an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and prove the value of their heritage.
This year, nine holders representing eight categories of craftsmanship will participate in the event. The featured categories include Daejeon's Anjeongut (Seolgyeong), Buddhist Statue Sculptor, Traditional Woodworking, Songsunju Liquor, Yeonan Lee Clan Dyeing and Coloring, Traditional Decorative Painting (Dancheong), Musical Instrument Making (Bukmeugi), and Traditional Carpentry. Their works will be on display during the event.
On October 17, Lee Manhee, holder of Yeonan Lee Clan Dyeing and Coloring, Yoon Jadeok, holder of Songsunju Liquor, Lee Jeongho, holder of Traditional Decorative Painting, and Hong Gyeongseon, holder of Traditional Carpentry, will give live demonstrations.
On October 18, Song Seonja, holder of Anjeongut (Seolgyeong), Bang Daekeun, holder of Traditional Woodworking, Kim Gwansik, holder of Musical Instrument Making (Bukmeugi), Kim Seonggyu, holder of Traditional Decorative Painting, and Lee Jinhyeong, holder of Buddhist Statue Sculptor, will showcase the process of creating their works.
Citizens will have the meaningful opportunity to experience the workspaces of these holders up close, allowing them to appreciate the beauty of tradition and the passion of the artisans.
Jeon Ilhong, Director of Culture, Arts and Tourism at Daejeon City, stated, "Intangible cultural heritage is a precious asset that embodies the history and identity of our region. I hope this event will give all citizens the chance to appreciate the value of tradition and empathize with the dedication of the heritage holders."
