Busan National University Korean Language and Literature Department to Host 'Tong Seminar: Crossers' with Film Director and Architect
Inviting Director Oh Minwook and Architect Ko Seongho
Trans-Local Convergence Discourse Across Literature, Art, and Architecture
The BK21 Trans-Local Korean Language and Literature Future Talent Training and Research Group of the Department of Korean Language and Literature at Busan National University (President Choi Jaewon) will host the 'Tong Seminar: Crossers' event on two occasions, October 23 and December 4, inviting film director Oh Minwook and architect Ko Seongho. The event aims to break down boundaries and foster an integrated perspective.
Launched in March 2024, the Trans-Local Korean Language and Literature Future Talent Training and Research Group seeks to promote communication and solidarity beyond national and regional boundaries, presenting 'Trans-Local' as a new methodology for Korean language and literature.
To put this into practice, the group operates a variety of academic and cultural programs each semester, including the 'Tong Seminar,' which shares interdisciplinary perspectives.
'Trans-local' means 'trans-regional' or 'crossing between regions,' emphasizing relationships in which different regions and cultures intersect and influence one another without being confined to a single area.
The theme of this year's seminar is 'Transcendors,' focusing on expanding the boundaries of literature by sharing the stories of those who freely move across various fields, creating and conveying new meanings and perspectives.
In the first semester, Insoo, an editor from UU Publishing who crosses the boundaries between publishing and research, and Moon Hanbyul, a professor at Sun Moon University, participated as speakers and received a positive response.
In the second semester seminar, film director Oh Minwook and architect Ko Seongho, who are practicing the trans-local methodology in the fields of art and architecture beyond literature, will give lectures.
Both lectures will be held in Room 502 (Hanbit Hall) of the Humanities Building at Busan National University, and are open to everyone.
The first seminar will take place on October 23 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with director Oh Minwook presenting on the topic "The Zone of Blanks and Dots: Focusing on the Work Journey in Busan, Tainan, and Kyoto."
Director Oh is currently the head of the Busan Independent Film Association and serves as the executive director and artistic director of the Busan Independent Film Festival and the Busan Intercity Film Festival.
His notable works include "The Year Shattered" (2024), "The Year of the Ghost" (2022), and "The Strait" (2019). He continues to visualize the traces of unnamed entities in history.
The second seminar will be held on December 4 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with architect Ko Seongho giving a lecture on the topic "How Does a Story Become a Space?"
