Sunchang County to Operate 'Water Leisure Equipment Experience Class' Starting on the 18th
Free Program Along the Seomjin River

Sunchang County in Jeonbuk announced on the 14th that it will operate a 'Water Leisure Equipment Experience Class' along the Seomjin River in front of Hwatang Village from the 18th of this month to the 23rd of next month.
The water leisure sports experience class, sponsored by Jeonbuk Province and Sunchang County and organized by the Seomjin River Water Leisure Federation, will be held every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants will receive training from a rafting guide on water safety and rowing techniques, after which they can enjoy canoeing and kayaking experiences.

View original imageHwatang Village, the venue for the experience, is located about a 15-minute drive from Yonggwolsan Sky Road, Sunchang's representative tourist attraction. It is considered the perfect place to enjoy special water leisure activities amid beautiful natural scenery.
In addition, tourists visiting the Sunchang Jangryu Festival, which will be held from the 17th to the 19th in the areas of Sunchang Traditional Gochujang Folk Village and Fermentation Theme Park, will also have a great opportunity to try canoeing and kayaking.
Reservations for the experience can be made in advance by phone through the Seomjin River Water Leisure Federation. Up to 20 people can participate per time slot, with a maximum of 100 people per day. If the reservation quota is not filled, on-site registration will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for walk-in visitors.
County Governor Choi Youngil said, "I hope that through this experience, both residents and tourists will fully appreciate the beauty of the Seomjin River and discover new joys. We will continue to develop various experience programs utilizing the region's unique natural environment and culture to improve the quality of life for residents and attract more tourists."

In fact, from 2015 to the first half of 2025, a total of 15,975 people have participated in this experience program, highlighting its emergence as a new tourism resource for Sunchang County.
