Geochang County's "Gamaksan Star Wind Hill" Emerges as a Premier National Tourist Destination
During the Chuseok Holiday,
Major Tourist Attractions Welcomed About 225,000 Visitors
Geochang County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on the 14th that approximately 225,000 people visited its major tourist attractions during the recent Chuseok holiday period, representing an increase of about 192% compared to last year’s 77,000 visitors. This surge brought renewed vitality to the entire region.
At Gamaksan Star Wind Hill, the flower and star festival themed "Into the Purple Sunset" was held, receiving an enthusiastic response throughout the holiday. Various music performances by local art groups, including vocal, acoustic guitar, saxophone, ocarina, and haegeum, as well as magic shows for children, were staged. As a result, there was a noticeable increase in visits from family tourists, young people, and foreign visitors.
In particular, on the day of Chuseok, a significant number of foreign visitors came after watching videos of Gamaksan Star Wind Hill on the short-form video platform TikTok. This voluntary promotion through social media contributed to boosting tourism.
At the Family Hot Spring Flower Garden, pink and golden cosmos were in full bloom during the holiday, making it a popular photo spot. The operation of photo zones, coffee coupon events, and healing program experience booths further enhanced visitor satisfaction.
At the Anti-Aging Healing Land, the open mountain scenery and Korea’s first Muju Tower Y-shaped suspension bridge attracted crowds of tourists seeking to enjoy the autumn atmosphere. Forest healing programs such as meditation, barefoot walking, foot baths, and tea therapy were offered, establishing the site as a leading destination where visitors could enjoy both relaxation and healing.
Geochang Forest Leisure Sports Park set a new record for visitor numbers since its opening in March this year, with an average of about 2,200 people per day during the Chuseok holiday. The Tree Top, which features the iconic Lighthouse Observatory, gained nationwide recognition and was dubbed "the Bana Hills of Korea" during this period.
Additionally, Geochang Changpowon captivated tourists with family-friendly activities such as bicycle rentals, visits to the tropical plant garden, a healing center, and a kids’ cafe. The Suseungdae tourist site, known for its clear waters and lush forests, became a popular healing spot where visitors enjoyed the beauty of autumn during the holiday.
