West Sea Coast Guard Headquarters Conducts Safety Inspection to Prepare for Maritime Accidents During Chuseok Holiday
Special Management Period from October 3 to 10
Emergency Response Posture Maintained for Accident Prevention
The West Sea Coast Guard Headquarters announced on October 2 that it held a safety management inspection meeting in anticipation of an increase in travelers returning to their hometowns on islands and tourists visiting the sea during the Chuseok holiday.
This year, with the Chuseok holiday longer than usual, the period from October 3 to October 10 has been designated as a special management period. During this time, safety activities to prevent accidents will be strengthened, and patrol vessels will be deployed in advance along major routes used by multi-passenger vessels such as ferries and cruise ships to prepare for emergencies.
In particular, to prevent coastal accidents during the spring tide period, which overlaps with the Chuseok holiday (October 7 to October 10), patrols will be intensified in high-risk areas such as coastlines, rocky shores, and breakwaters. In addition, a rescue headquarters will be established in advance to ensure immediate response in the event of a maritime accident, maintaining a 24-hour emergency dispatch posture.
Furthermore, the Coast Guard will broadcast announcements regarding port entry and departure times, thoroughly monitor vessels passing through vulnerable waters, and strengthen crackdowns on illegal foreign fishing boats and unauthorized island entries through patrols by both patrol vessels and aircraft.
