Highlighting Over 50 Years of Dedication to Onggi Pottery
Exhibition Runs Until April 5 Next Year

The Ulsan Onggi Museum will hold a memorial exhibition titled "Honbul" in honor of the late master artisan Jang Sungwoo from October 2, 2025, to April 5, 2026, at the Special Exhibition Hall I on the second floor of the museum.

Jang Sungwoo, designated as Ulsan Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 4, began his career in onggi pottery in 1965 and dedicated over 50 years to the craft. In 1988, he founded Gaya Silla Kiln and was actively engaged in the field, serving as president of the Oegosan Onggi Association and devoting himself to the preservation and succession of traditional onggi pottery.

This exhibition has been organized to honor the life and artistic world of the master artisan, who pioneered the field of mu-yu onggi and strove to recreate Gaya and Silla earthenware. On display are 20 representative works, tools and oral records used by the artisan during his lifetime, as well as video interviews with those who remember him.

The exhibition is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the museum is closed every Monday. For more information, please contact the Ulsan Onggi Museum.

A representative from the Ulsan Onggi Museum stated, "This memorial exhibition not only commemorates the life and works of the late master Jang Sungwoo, but also highlights the traditional value of Onggi culture in Ulju. We hope visitors will deeply feel the resonance of traditional onggi pottery."
