Accordingly, Daejeon Transit Corporation conducted a joint labor-management campaign on October 1 at Daejeon City Hall Station to urge the legislation of national government subsidies for free transportation costs.
The losses incurred by Daejeon Urban Railway due to free transportation amounted to 9.2 billion won in 2022, 10.2 billion won in 2023, and 12.5 billion won in 2024, increasing every year due to the rapid aging of the population.
The campaign was attended by Yeon Gyuyang, President of Daejeon Transit Corporation, Choi Hyangho, Chairman of the Daejeon Transit Corporation Labor Union, and other labor and management executives. They took the opportunity to inform citizens about the legitimacy and necessity of national government compensation for free transportation losses.
The six urban railway operators nationwide, including Daejeon, are making joint efforts to urge the government and the National Assembly to legislate national government subsidies for free transportation costs.
