HandySoft Launches Emergency Support After Government Data Center Fire... Leading Public IT Trust Recovery and Cloud Transition
As a fire at the Daejeon Center of the National Information Resources Service paralyzed key government computer networks, HandySoft, which has supplied groupware solutions to public institutions for 30 years, launched an emergency support initiative.
Due to this incident, approximately 70 government online services directly related to residents’ daily lives were suspended, and 647 work systems, including those for postal and savings services, ceased operations, raising concerns over 'digital work continuity' in the public sector.
HandySoft immediately activated an internal emergency response task force and began implementing support measures. In particular, the company is providing urgent technical assistance to institutions that operate on its systems or use modules linked to the On-Nara System.
HandySoft is dispatching specialists to affected organizations to check data integrity and help establish temporary work processes, and plans to offer inspection and consulting services free of charge until recovery is complete. At the same time, the company is closely cooperating with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and IT departments of each institution, monitoring the progress of recovery efforts.
Lee Haeseok, CEO of HandySoft, stated, "As a collaboration solutions provider, we feel a great sense of responsibility in this situation where the digital work continuity of public institutions has been shaken," and added, "We will spare no effort in providing the maximum technical and human support to help normalize operations at the relevant institutions."
He continued, "This incident will likely accelerate the recognition that a phased transition to cloud-based collaboration systems is necessary for central government agencies and their affiliated organizations," emphasizing, "Based on our experience with the Ministry of National Defense’s 'On-Nara 2.0 Cloud Migration' project, HandySoft will actively support the government’s cloud redundancy policies."
In fact, HandySoft led last year’s integrated cloud migration project for the Ministry of National Defense’s On-Nara administrative system, securing a reference case for large-scale public work system cloud transitions. The current crisis caused by the fire is seen as another opportunity to demonstrate the company’s technical capabilities and experience.
Going forward, HandySoft plans to expand its technical support for public cloud-based infrastructure transitions, including the design of high availability (HA), backup, and disaster recovery (DR) systems to prevent the recurrence of such large-scale disruptions.
