China Global Television Network (CGTN) reported that Wang Yi, Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China and concurrently the Chinese Foreign Minister, met with Choe Sonhui, North Korean Foreign Minister, in Beijing on the 28th. This marks the first time that the two countries' top diplomats have held a face-to-face meeting since Choe's appointment, as she is visiting China alone in her capacity as Foreign Minister.

View original imageChoe, who arrived in Beijing on the 27th at the invitation of Director Wang, is scheduled to stay in China for four days until the 30th. About three weeks ago, she accompanied North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to China for the 80th anniversary ceremony of the Chinese Victory Day.
This meeting is drawing attention as it is highly likely that the two sides discussed the possible visit of a high-ranking Chinese official to North Korea to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea on October 10. Some observers speculate that the talks may have been held to coordinate a potential visit to North Korea by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
