National Institute for Korean Medicine Development Holds "Korean Medicine R&D Planning Contest"
Beyond Ideas to Commercialization,
Utilizing as National R&D Assets
The National Institute for Korean Medicine Development (Acting President Song Sujin) will hold the "2025 Korean Medicine R&D Planning Contest" to incorporate public ideas into Korean medicine research and development (R&D).
This contest aims to go beyond simple ideas by discovering technology proposals with field applicability and expertise, systematically planning and supporting them, and ultimately leading to actual R&D commercialization.
The National Institute for Korean Medicine Development plans to promote the dissemination of Korean medicine research outcomes throughout the industry by implementing a participatory research planning program created jointly by the public and experts.
Selected proposals will receive support for detailed technology planning and will be developed into concrete technology planning reports. The results will be actively reflected in the planning of Korean medicine R&D projects.
Additionally, proposals that are not selected will be accumulated in the "Korean Medicine R&D Technology Database" and managed so they can be utilized when necessary.
Through this, outstanding ideas and research plans will not remain as one-off achievements but will be continuously utilized as national R&D policy assets.
The contest will be conducted in two categories: designated and open topics.
The designated category will focus on three themes derived from the Korean medicine demand survey: digital and AI-based innovation, fostering new industries in Korean medicine, and solving social issues.
The open category will accept proposals on a wide range of Korean medicine research and development topics without thematic restrictions.
Anyone interested in Korean medicine R&D, whether as an individual or a group, can participate in the contest.
The application period is open until 10:00 a.m. on the 20th of next month.
The evaluation will involve experts from various fields, including not only Korean medicine but also science, technology, industry, and policy, who will comprehensively assess alignment with objectives, appropriateness of the research plan, feasibility, market competitiveness, and impact.
The four selected teams (individuals or groups) will each receive 5 million won in technology planning support and an opportunity to participate in an R&D planning workshop. Detailed information about the contest can be found and applied for on the National Institute for Korean Medicine Development website and the National Korean Medicine Clinical Information Portal.
