This year's expo, held under the slogan "Life to Regions, Breath to Cities," is taking place for four days from September 24 to 27 at the Jeongra District urban regeneration site in Samcheok City. A total of 123 organizations, including various government ministries, local governments from across the country, institutions, and private companies, are participating to promote exemplary cases of their urban regeneration projects and to share their visions and achievements.
Jinju City participated in the expo's Urban and Regional Innovation Awards program, presenting the main achievements of its urban regeneration recognition project titled "Creation of the Railroad Culture Park," which was carried out in the area of the former Jinju Station. The city was highly praised for its achievements related to improving the living environment and was honored with the award at the opening ceremony.
The urban regeneration recognition project for the former Jinju Station has revitalized a declining area by establishing a railway history museum, a multipurpose exhibition and cultural space, a complex cultural community hub, and a community rail garden. These efforts have transformed the abandoned former Jinju Station and its surrounding area, which had been left idle after the discontinuation of railway operations, into a new gathering and relaxation space for citizens.
A city official stated, "Winning the award for two consecutive years is a recognition of Jinju City's efforts in urban regeneration," adding, "We will continue to create a Jinju that everyone wants to live in through sustainable urban regeneration projects that reflect local characteristics and the voices of residents."
