Yangyang County Dementia Safety Center Receives Approval to Maintain Excellent Dementia Safety Village Status
Strengthening the Foundation of a Dementia-Friendly Community
Excellent Designation Maintained Until September 2026
The Yangyang County Dementia Safety Center in Gangwon Province announced on the 23rd that it has received approval from the Ministry of Health and Welfare to maintain its status as an Excellent Dementia Safety Village, extending this designation until September 1, 2026.
The Dementia Safety Village is a project aimed at creating a dementia-friendly environment that supports patients and their families to live safely and with dignity within the local community. This approval is seen as a result of consistent efforts and the active participation of local residents.
The Yangyang County Dementia Safety Center held two operational meetings in each of the villages of Susang-ri and Hagwangjeong-ri, which have been designated as Excellent Dementia Safety Villages. Through these meetings, the center promoted the Dementia Safety Center and early screening, provided dementia awareness education and campaigns, and operated programs at senior centers during the agricultural off-season, thereby expanding community participation.
In addition, to create a hygienic and safe living environment, the center collaborated with the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Metropolitan Dementia Center and the Korean Red Cross to operate the mobile laundry program "Clean up! Worry-Free Laundry," helping to improve the daily lives of dementia patients and their families.
Furthermore, the Hyeonbuk-myeon Post Office was designated as a leading institution for overcoming dementia, establishing a system to protect and report wandering seniors, strengthening the safety net to prevent missing persons, and participating in dementia prevention awareness activities.
