In order to stabilize prices ahead of Chuseok, the government will supply a total of 172,000 tons of holiday essentials and offer discounts of up to 50% on certain items, including Korean beef.
On September 19, Lee Hyungil, the First Vice Minister of Economy and Finance, held a meeting of vice ministers related to price management at the Nonghyup Livestock Products Market in Eumseong County, North Chungcheong Province. He stated, "We will conduct daily checks on the prices and supply of holiday essentials until Chuseok, and will promptly take additional measures if necessary."
The government plans to supply 172,000 tons of holiday essentials before Chuseok. The supply of Korean beef in September will be significantly increased to 30,000 tons, and it will be sold at discounts of up to 50%. For pork, 65,000 tons will be supplied, which is 1.3 times the usual amount, and 10,000 tons of pork subject to the allocated tariff quota will also be quickly imported into the domestic market.
To address the recent instability in rice prices, the government will release 25,000 tons of reserve rice to private companies for distribution in the market by October 17. For garlic, 400 tons from government stockpiles and 600 tons from cultivated supplies will be directly provided. Management of fruit growth will also be strengthened. The government stated that, together with relevant ministries, it will conduct daily checks on the prices and supply of holiday essentials before Chuseok, and will consider additional measures if necessary.

Vice Minister Lee emphasized, "Securing sufficient supply to meet the increased demand for livestock products during the Chuseok holiday season is extremely important." Regarding the recent outbreaks of African swine fever and highly pathogenic avian influenza, he noted, "Although the scale of damage has not been significant so far and there have been no additional cases, it is fortunate. However, as travel increases during the Chuseok holiday season, I urge everyone to remain vigilant and strengthen quarantine efforts." The government also announced plans to promptly establish special quarantine measures for livestock diseases to enhance winter season disease control.
