Much-Needed Rain to Fall in Drought-Stricken Gangneung
On Friday, September 12, very heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds, thunder, and lightning is forecast for the Gangwon region starting in the late afternoon. Even in Gangneung, Gangwon, which has been experiencing an extreme drought, up to 60mm of much-needed rain is expected.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, 30 to 100mm of rain is expected in the inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, 20 to 60mm along the east coast of Gangwon, and more than 100mm could fall in the northern east coast of Gangwon. As of 6 a.m., the water storage rate at Obong Reservoir, which supplies 87% of Gangneung's domestic water, stood at 11.6% (the average is 71.2%), down 0.2 percentage points from the previous day.
The highest daytime temperatures are forecast to reach 27 to 28 degrees Celsius in inland areas, 22 to 24 degrees in mountainous areas (Daegwallyeong and Taebaek), and 26 to 27 degrees along the east coast. Until the morning, some mountainous areas may experience dense fog with visibility less than 200 meters due to low clouds caused by easterly winds.

The Korea Meteorological Administration stated, "Due to the very heavy rainfall, there are concerns about possible damage, so please be cautious of flooding, isolation, and other safety accidents, and pay special attention to crop management."
