This winning proposal was highly praised by the judging panel for presenting a variety of ideas that go beyond simply reinforcing existing facilities, offering ways to transform the venue into a citizen-friendly space. The design includes an event plaza, open spaces for citizens, a comprehensive sports center, and a hockey rink. It was recognized as a forward-thinking plan that reflects not only the stadium’s core functions but also its usability for citizens, thanks to its openness, dynamism, efficient multipurpose space configuration, and circulation design.
The city plans to begin basic and detailed design work within this month, investing a total project budget of 38.2 billion won to fully launch the remodeling project. Construction is scheduled to start in the second half of 2026, with completion by the end of 2027 and the stadium opening targeted for 2028.
This project goes beyond simple renovations of existing sports facilities, carrying symbolic significance for expanding Seongnam’s sports infrastructure and increasing cultural spaces for citizens. The new baseball stadium will offer excellent accessibility, being within walking distance from Suin-Bundang Line and Subway Line 8 stations, and is expected to have a positive ripple effect on local businesses around the stadium.
Going forward, the city plans to develop the baseball-only stadium into a multi-purpose sports and cultural complex where anyone can enjoy amateur games, community sports events, and youth sports education programs. In addition, the city intends to open the possibility of attracting a professional baseball team, greatly expanding opportunities for Seongnam citizens to watch professional baseball games in person.
Mayor Shin Sangjin stated, "The baseball-only stadium will be reborn as a new landmark capable of hosting professional baseball games, providing enjoyment and inspiration to our citizens," adding, "By expanding sports infrastructure and revitalizing the local economy, we will develop Seongnam into a vibrant city where sports and culture coexist."
