Expanding Low-Carbon Maritime Transport: Hyundai Glovis Signs LNG Supply Agreement with SK Gas
Building LNG Ship Fuel Supply Infrastructure in Southeast Korea
Hyundai Glovis has signed a contract to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) ship fuel to SK Gas, laying the foundation for the operation of low-carbon pure car and truck carriers (PCTC).
On September 4, Hyundai Glovis announced that it had signed a "Southeast Korea-based LNG Ship Fuel Supply Agreement" with Ecomarine Fuel Solution, a subsidiary of SK Gas.
The signing ceremony, held the previous day at the SK Gas headquarters in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, was attended by Kyu-bok Lee, CEO of Hyundai Glovis, Byung-seok Yoon, CEO of SK Gas, Hak-chul Lee, CEO of Ecomarine Fuel Solution, and other officials.

Hyundai Glovis is increasing the adoption of PCTCs equipped with LNG dual-fuel engines, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045.
LNG dual-fuel engines can use both conventional fuel and LNG, a low-carbon fuel. It is known that using LNG reduces carbon emissions by more than 20% compared to very low sulfur fuel oil (VLSFO). This hybrid engine is considered a practical solution for reducing ship carbon emissions at this point in time.
Starting with five vessels last year, Hyundai Glovis plans to introduce more than 30 LNG dual-fuel PCTCs by 2028. Given that the southeastern region, including Ulsan, accounts for the largest amount and frequency of PCTC bunkering in Korea, Hyundai Glovis has decided to build LNG ship fuel supply infrastructure in the region in partnership with SK Gas.
