Jang Donghyuk: "One-on-One Meeting with President Lee Needed After Ruling and Opposition Leaders' Summit"
"The Best Way to Share Summit Achievements Is to Release the Joint Statement and Fact Sheet"
Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, stated on August 29 that he would only accept President Lee Jaemyung's proposal for a meeting with ruling and opposition party leaders on the condition that a one-on-one meeting with the president would follow.
After concluding a party workshop at the Incheon International Airport Aviation Training Center on August 29, Jang met with reporters and said, "The president and the leadership of both parties can meet to discuss the outcomes of the South Korea-US summit, but there must also be time for the president and the leader of the main opposition party to speak separately."
The previous day, immediately after returning from visits to the United States and Japan, President Lee instructed his staff to arrange a meeting with the leadership of both parties in order to explain the results of the summits.
Jang stated, "If the outcomes of the summit are disclosed to the public through the release of an agreement or a fact sheet, there would be no need to explain them in a meeting with party leaders. Even if we make significant concessions and meet with the party leadership to discuss the summit's achievements, there must be time for the president and the opposition leader to have a sincere conversation about the lives of the people."

He added, "Inviting the leader of the main opposition party to join the ruling party leader in order to explain the results of the summit is not, in my view, intended to address the people's lives together during these difficult times."
