View original imageJeonnam Province announced that, thanks to the strong interest and willingness to participate from livestock farms, 89 additional sites have obtained low-carbon livestock product certification this year. This marks the highest number in the country for three consecutive years, proving that the province is leading carbon neutrality in the livestock sector.
The low-carbon livestock product certification system is a program promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to achieve carbon neutrality in the livestock sector. Livestock farms that have received national certifications (such as organic livestock, antibiotic-free, or HACCP) are eligible for this certification if they adopt carbon reduction technologies in areas such as feeding management, manure treatment, and energy saving, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 10% compared to the standard emissions of general farms.
Implemented since 2023, the system has seen 89 additional sites certified in Jeonnam Province this year, bringing the total to 148 farms, which accounts for 25% of all certified farms nationwide and maintains the province’s leading position. This achievement is attributed to the high level of interest and willingness to participate among livestock farmers.
Low-carbon livestock product certification is granted through a three-stage review process (document evaluation, on-site evaluation, and final review) conducted by a panel of experts in the livestock sector.
